Thematic working group on urban informality and innovation for resilient futures
The NATure-based solutions to Urban Resilience in the Anthropocene (NATURA) is a network of worldwide networks that exchanges knowledge, shares data, and enhances communication among research disciplines and across the research–practice divide.
To promote collaboration among network members, NATURA promotes the organisation of thematic working groups. Thematic working groups (TWG) should seek to advance synthesis on theory, research, and/or best practices related to nature-based solutions across diverse global social-biophysical contexts.
Our permanent partner RECNET (Recycling the City Network), obtained the the approbation from NATURA to develop a TWG based on the Urban adaptation to resilient futures in informal settlements program with the purpose to investigate the complexity of urban informality and develop the appropriate mechanisms for nature based solutions (NBS) that promote resilient futures in response to global change.
Supported by:
RECNET propose the following cross-cutting synthesis goals that can be addressed by collaboration of researchers and practitioners across NATURA networks, to specifically advance the implementation of NBS in the context of informality:
-
Diagnostic tools: Integrate innovative approaches to understand the dynamics of informality as part of the territorial diagnosis and preliminary studies to design NBS in urban areas
-
Informing implementation: Advances in knowledge and methodologies for the adoption of technological innovations and the implementation of inclusive transformative processes in the context of informality
-
Mechanics of governance: Integrate different readings on the political conflicts that underlie informality as part of developing resilience initiatives, guidelines and methodologies to support decision making and management pathways for NBS. by creating a multi-stakeholder thematic working group on urban informality and innovation for resilient futures,
According to the NATURA Coordinating Committee:
"Thematic working groups should seek to advance synthesis on theory, research, and/or best practices related to nature-based solutions across diverse global social-biophysical contexts".
We are open to welcome participants who may come from different networks, regions, or backgrounds. This is an important aspect of the NATURA project to accelerate advances in the understanding of nature-based solutions. We value, in particular, on supporting early-career scholars.
